ahhh...refreshing...

I have been amiss again in my postings...I'm sure you don't want to hear all the gorey details. But mainly computer problems...but it's all good now. We finally got some monsoon moisture here in the desert about a week ago and it's still coming most afternoons. Here are a few pictures from yesterday and here are some beads that got a bath too ;o) And one more bit of news...instead of our condo trade coming through in Seattle or Vancouver so that I could go to Ravensdale, we ended up with a trade in Fort Lauderdale, Florida of all places. It looks like a beautiful place, even though it is hurricane season and the humidity will prolly do me in. We're outta here from August 5th through the 12th. Anyone been there? Hope you all are safe and well :o)

um, yah...we were just talking about the mosquitos last night. Not looking forward to that. Florida is one of the last places I would have picked, but what's done is done *g*

I decided last night, that the beads that get hand sanded will end up in some kind of jewelry...which is what this batch is. Got about half of them sanded and buffed last night. The rest go into the tumbler. I really need to sell some, but am kind of hoarding them until I find out about that Harvest Festival this Fall. They are supposed to sending out letters in the next week or two.

So, you need rain in CA? No wildfires I hope...

I LOVE Ft. Lauderdale ... but in August? Sunscreen and bug spray. Take a hat and flip flops (the sand gets HOT!).

Take the water taxi... you can take it all around the city. If you get a good captain, you'll get a great tour. Buy an all-day ticket and explore Riverwalk, Los Olas Blvd., the Imax Theater, etc.

Best seafood restaurant in the world is Fifteenth Street Fisheries. For steak, try Shula's on the Beach. Both expensive, but worth it.

What else? Beach Place is fun for a visit, but the prices are outrageous. Same for shopping on Los Olas, but great window shopping.

I'm sure I'll think of more as soon as I send this.

Have fun!

heh, I've actually had a somewhat close encounter with flying roaches one time in life...and I still have nightmares about it. Thanks for conjuring up those images again Kath..;o)

Fantastic! That's exactly what I needed Linda...restaurant recommendations! I got the flip flops and bug spray covered for sure. If the humidity is anything like I'm guessing (like 80% with 90 degree temps), I imagine I'll be inside a good part of the time. Or on the beach of course! Hmmm, Beach Place huh? Gonna have to check that out online, cuz i hadn't heard of that one. Are there any ride parks close by that you know of? Oh, and do you know anything about the Flea Market there? Thanks so much for popping in with your suggestions Linda, I sure appreciate it!!

Barb . . I left a very long post yesterday with more Ft. Lauderdale stuff. Did it get lost or was it just too long?

Oh no! I didn't see it anywhere :o( Must have gotten lost somehow? wah...

Okay... let me try this again.

The Flea Market .... Swap Shop .... is huge. Most of it is fake perfume, fake gucci, fake rolex watches.... you

know what I mean. But it is worth a trip for the spectacle of the place. There are rides (children's) and a decent

food court. Part is air conditioned, so you can get a break from the heat. The really good stuff is outside... if

you can find it. The garage sale type junk is my favorite. If you stay till dark, it is the world's largest drive

in movie theater.

I can't think of any amusement parks in the area, except for a water park in West Palm Beach (less than 2 hours

north). It's fun for kids, but I lost the top of my bathing suit in the big wave pool, so beware! I could spend an

entire day just drifting the "rapids" in a tube. Especially a day too hot to do anything else.

If you have an interest in butterflies, check out Butterfly World. I have not been there, but I have heard it is

beautiful, if you don't mind flying insects close up.

You could also take an Everglades tour, before it disappears.

Hollywood has a boardwalk, but the last time I was there, I was not impressed. Maybe it has improved.

Skip the tourist trap Jungle Queen cruises. Take the water taxi instead. If you are going to be staying near a

water taxi stop, get a 7 day pass and you can get all around for little money. Parking can be difficult (and

expensive). The water taxi is my favorite thing in Ft. Lauderdale. You can see where Miami Vice was filmed .. (ha,

in Ft. Lauderdale) and where famous people live and some of the most outrageous "mansions" and, of course, boats.

Riverwalk is good for lunch and window shopping. Los Olas Blvd, also... both at the same water taxi stop. The

water taxi also goes to 15th St. Fisheries, which I hope you don't miss. (Unless you are a vegan.)

And the beach, of course. Ft, Lauderdale has a beautiful (and free) beach. Have lunch at Beach Place (many

waterfront restaurants) and people-watch... amazing. Have dinner at a restaurant near Beach Place (find one with

music you like... doesn't really matter about the food at this point) and people-watch all night. The ocean, and

all the cruise ships, etc., the people, everything is beautiful.

Plus, you are less than an hour from Miami... South Beach... Biscayne Bay... Bayside Marketplace.

Kathi, I think you would have a blast at the Balloon Fiesta. And I think you would enjoy the RV experience out there too. It's like a whole separate city next to the Balloon Field. You just come outside in the early AM and look into the sky with wonderment. I still look forward to it every year :o)

Thanks so much Linda! You are so kind to post all of that again :o) I've your printed it and added it to my folder of trip stuff. Thank you again, you really gave us some great info!!

And I'm very sorry I took so long to reply. That's how it is with this blog o' mine. Sometimes, I neglect it.

Can you believe DH wants to go to a Marlins game in Miami the very first full day we're in Florida? I told him to pick me up at the beach ;o)
